Psalm 75

July 18   Psalm 75

Verse 8 is a reference for the cup of God's judgement.  There will be a day of accountability for all people.  Everyone will be held to account for their lives.  The choices we make. The way we treat people.  The stewardship we had over things that God had provided for us.  There is a cup of wrath that comes upon those who count on themselves to be able to stand in the judgment.  For those who actively and persistently performed evil there will be a day of accountability.   For those who depended on their own works and their own goodness to earn their ticket to Heaven, there will be disappointment that their best was nowhere near good enough to overcome their sinfulness.

There was another cup that changes everything for us.  Jesus took up the cup and said: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you”.  We no longer need to take the cup of wrath because Jesus already provided forgiveness for us through his death on the cross.  This cup weighed heavy on Jesus.  He asked his Father to remove the cup from him because it was going to be the most difficult thing any person would ever have to face.  But Jesus took the cup of wrath on our behalf so that now we can take the cup at communion and know that we are forgiven and free.  Don't forget the cost.  Don't ignore sharing with others that cup of wrath can be replaced with a cup of forgiveness in Jesus.  Don't forget to give thanks to God for the salvation we have- daily thankfulness to God for another day helps shape how we got about our day.
