Samuel is giving sort of a farewell address as their leader and saying you have a king now. Samuel had led with integrity and honor. He had done the right things in his leadership. There is no major scandal. There are no secrets being revealed as he goes. He simply was faithful servant to the end. In our culture unfortunately a lot of big scandals take place with Christian leaders. A top streaming documentary right now on Netflix is called "Death of the Pastor's Wife" and discusses the story of a pastor in South Carolina who was not what he seemed to be. Sadly, there are many stories of these types of leadership fails within Christianity. The reality is these make headlines.
What does not make headlines is the majority of Christians who serve God faithfully and with integrity. Unfortunately, failure gets recognized and faithfulness often goes unnoticed. May we all as Christians strive to be like Samuel who at the end of the day simply could rest on the fact that he did the right things. Was Samuel perfect? Certainly not and nobody is but God alone. But Samuel's life was a pursuit of God, and his character resembled the fact he was living for God. May that be true for all of us.
