In 1 Samuel 13 we see trouble coming upon Israel. They wanted a King to lead them into battle. Up to this point it was the LORD who had led them into battle. If you rewind from this point backwards you will see many amazing triumphs and victories coming in ways only God could orchestrate. It seems like now they have taken their eyes off of God and put them on King Saul to lead them into battle. Here they are in a moment of preparation for battle only to be found without weapons. King Saul saw the troops deserting him so he made a burnt offering until waiting until the arrival of Samuel like he should have. Did he do this with sincerity of heart or simply as a tool to try to gain control of the situation? A right thing done for a wrong reason is not the benefit we often think it should be. This chapter shows us what happens when Israel puts their eyes on a man to be their leader as opposed to God.
