Moses' encounter with God at the burning bush is certainly a life changing moment for Moses. It is going to end with him being sent on a mission from God to return to Egypt and God would use him to free Israel from slavery. We know about the burning bush, and we know that Moses interacted with Pharaoh, but Moses mission did not come without some questions and even some objections. There were 3 types of objections or questions that Moses presented.
1. Legitimate Questions Concerns- Who am I supposed to say sent me? What if they don't believe me? There are times where we have real questions that make us unsure of what we are doing in serving the LORD. Moses had questions and God gave him the answers. When we are not sure and are sincerely seeking God's truth or wisdom, we can trust that He will provide for us.
2. Personal Doubts- Who Am I? I am slow of tongue and speech. These were concerns based on Moses' weaknesses. Did God not already know this about Moses? These sound like legitimate concerns, but they undervalue the power of God to overcome our weaknesses. We may have personal doubts about serving God, but when God calls you keep in mind who knows who he is calling, weaknesses and all. God didn't need Moses to be great; He needed Moses to obedient and trust in God's greatness. When God calls, He also equips us for every good work.
3. Passing on the Role God is Giving- Moses has run out of excuses. His final plea was to "send someone else". If you notice God was very patient and did not get mad at Moses as he worked through his questions and doubts. But this statement is very similar to saying "No" and the "LORD's anger burned". God has given a mission and shown clearly that He was going to be with Moses. Moses then says, "Please send someone else", which is another way of saying I heard what you said God and I still don't trust you. God did give him Aaron to help him but was that always the help he could benefit from? (Golden Calf incident).
If God is calling us, then no excuse is going to change his mind because we can't present something about ourselves that He doesn't already know. As scary as it may be at times to pursue God's will for our life there is something much scarier; to reject God's call and ask Him to send someone else and miss out on the plans God has for us.
