Genesis 2

We see in Genesis 2 an emphasis on the creation of mankind. We see a special creation of Adam where God forms him like a potter forming a piece of clay into a masterpiece and breathes life into him. This is important to remember that people are not just the "highest animal on the food chain". People are a special creation of God who are given a role of being the caretakers of the world that God has created. Humans have a special relationship with God that is distinct and different than the rest of creation.

We also see in this verse the creation of marriage. God saw that Adam needed a helper to accomplish the mission that God had given him. So God created woman from the rib of the man to create a bride who would be the perfect companion to him. The foundation of marriage is seen here- marriage is 1 man and 1 woman in a committed relationship that is designed to be for life. This is the only definition of marriage that is in-line with Scripture. We need to strive in our churches to help develop strong marriages based on an understanding of God's plan and purposes for marriage.
