Isaac in fear lied about Rebekah being his wife. He reasoned that if they knew the truth they would kill him so that she would be single and available. His fear led not to trust in God for protection, but deception and lying to protect himself. Abraham actually had done the same thing if you remember. We do not see them being instructed by God to do so. It simply caused more trouble of a different kind. Oddly enough they also ended up with good outcomes. We must be aware that our children and grandchildren may pick up our habits and behaviors- for better or worse. It is amazing to me sometimes how the things that annoy us in our children often turn out to actually be a reflection of our own behaviors.
God did bless Isaac. He reaped a hundred times what he sowed. This was the way things were supposed to be before the Fall. This does not mean that there would not be trouble in the future, but for the time being Isaac is blessed with good crops and grows in wealth. Wealth is not a bad thing, what really determines whether it is good or bad is how we handle what we have been given.
