Proverbs 30

give me neither poverty nor riches,

but give me only my daily bread.

9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you

and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’

Or I may become poor and steal,

and so dishonor the name of my God.

This is an interesting prayer. It is a prayer of contentment. It is a prayer of dependence on God. Don't give me riches or I may say I don't need you anymore. Don't give me nothing or I will become desperate and take matters into my own hands in the wrong ways. He is asking the LORD to simply give him what he needs each day so that he can make it through the day and keep his eyes on God. We can easily be distracted in abundance to turn our eyes from God to ourselves and our stuff. We can also look at times of need and blame God for not doing what He should do. Instead we need to look at God as our provider and sustainer daily.

Verse one is a great verse for those who are tired or exhausted by the troubles of life.

“I am weary, God,

but I can prevail.

Can anyone relate to this verse today? We are mere men and women. We grow weary. We need rest and relief. But God is a constant strength in our weakness. He is a constant help in our times of need. So, when you are weary don't give up. Confess it to God and keep moving forward. Maybe you are weary because you have been fighting sickness. Maybe you are weary because your kids are home from school all day long and are having a hard time getting along. Maybe you are weary because you work a hard job and you just feel like you are never getting ahead in life- always another bill to pay, always something that needs repaired. Whatever is causing you to be weary; God doesn't want to you to deal with alone. He offers us rest in Him. He will bear our burdens with us so we are not carrying them alone.
