God comes to the aid of His people. This may be quickly, but that is not always the case. The world can throw many things at us, but nothing beyond God's ability to help us through. This Psalm implies that human help is worthless. In some cases, for Israel, trying to muster a bigger army or bring in allies would do no good because God was sending them into exile for sin. No man or army could fight against God's plan. There are certainly things that we are called to do to help other people with throughout the Bible. There are however things that we cannot do for someone. We cannot solve every problem. We cannot fix every pain. All we can do is pray.
That phrase "all we can do is pray" sounds like we have nothing to offer. It makes us sound like we have run out of options. But in truth- it is the very best thing we can do. A lot of people like to solve problems for people. We are solutions people. But sometimes the solution is out your hands completely. Prayer should never be the last resort; it should be our starting point. We cannot undervalue or undermine the tremendous value and importance of praying. All we can do is pray should not be seen as a worst-case scenario, but an everyday necessity.
