August 21 Psalm 109
David had a tremendous challenge in his life. He pursued to live for God and others tried to bring him down. He was loving towards others, and the love was responded to with hatred and false accusation. They attacked him for no reason. David had it rough, but he did it not allow him to become rough. It happens often that a person who faces a rough life often becomes a rough person.
David did not lose faith. He kept praying in the midst of everything. David did not lose hope. He also did not lose his character. The easiest response to mean people is to become a mean person. The best response is to let mean people have no ability to change who we are or what we do.
David sought to still love despite their hate. Jesus called us to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute us. The thing we need to keep in mind is that what someone does to us is a reflection of their character. How we respond is the reflection of our character. When others choose sinfulness, we can still choose God's way. The words and accusations of our enemies can certainly be a way for others to hurt us. The worst way they can hurt us though is to change us- to get us to stoop to their level. Don't let anyone else define who you are, that role belongs to God alone.
