August 24 Psalm 112

How can someone be happy in fearing the LORD? That is a good question because we think of fear as only producing a bad result. Fear of the LORD comes with a proper perspective of reverence and awe for the LORD. How can remembering who God is help us to be happy? Because when we have a reverence and fear for the LORD we are reminded of three things.

1. We did not create ourselves, God created us. This means our value does not come from other people or how we view ourselves. Our value comes from the one who made us. He gets to define who I am. I live to honor God with my life.


2. If God is all-powerful, then there is nothing I can pray about that He cannot handle. We can pray with confidence that God is more than able to deal with our life's difficulties.


3. God is just, He will hold to account all of the evil that we see in the world. Sometimes we get frustrated by evil and think it is not fair that people get away with it. Fear of the LORD reminds us that nobody ever truly "gets away with it".
