Psalm 123
Where do we look to find favor? The Psalmist is saying we are keeping our eyes on God. We keep our focus on Him so that we can find favor. This is not some sort of hopeful looking to God. When we look at God as a Good Father, we know that He loves us and will care for us.
They were looking to God for favor because in the world they were finding contempt and scorn. As a Christian we seek to please the LORD. Not everyone will appreciate that. Not everyone will see living for Christ as a right decision. They may ridicule our faith. They may show contempt for what we believe because it may clash what they want to think is true.
In truth we need to make a choice- do we seek to please God or seek to please the world? We cannot do both. It is better to find contempt from the world and favor with God as opposed to seeking to find favor with the world and finding ourselves in a wrong relationship with God. The applause of the world is temporary and fleeting and the culture shifts all the time. God's standards and His desire for us our consistent and eternal. His love is an everlasting love, and He does not change.
