September 9 Psalm 124

This Psalm was written after a victory in battle. The battle was likely against the Philistines. David was known as a great warrior. The Israelite army was brave and capable under his command. Yet, after the victory they did not go about talking about themselves. They had to fight and they risked their lives, but they also knew they did not go into battle alone.

It is easy to pray for help when the battle begins. It is important that we don't forget to praise the LORD when the battle is won. They did not claim the victory by their strength, might and power. They gave credit to the LORD for being the one who led to victory. Victory in the Christian life is not found when we dig deep and try to be good by our own strength. Victory in the Christian life is found when we realize our help is in the name of Yahweh, the maker of heaven and earth. Don't fight the battles in life without remembering how much you need God. Don't forget to give Him the proper credit when the victory is won.
