Psalm 137

This is a sad Psalm about how it felt for them in exile. Hopeless. When we remember who the Edomites were it shows us that families can see members go in very directions in life. The Edomites are descendants from Esau. The Israelites are descendants of Jacob. The twin brothers who had some serious sibling rivalry brought that was in some ways encouraged by their parents when drawn out over the years led to two nations that were enemies. The Edomites enjoyed the destruction of Israel. Clearly this was a nation that had turned their back on God. Yet, these two nations chase their roots back to a pair of brothers whose grandfather's name was Abraham. Abraham was absolutely a God-fearing man- yet it did not continue to pass down through all of his family over the generations. We must do all we can to pass our faith on to our children and grandchildren. We must pray for them and tell them the truth. Then we need to pray even more because at the end of the day they have to choose to follow the LORD themselves.
