v.10-11 talks about money. A lot of people will misquote 1 Timothy 6:10 and say that "money is the root of all evil". The verse actually says: "the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil". The word love is important and is often overlooked. Money is in itself neutral and necessary. Money is not necessarily a good thing or bad thing by itself. It is what we do with money and what money does to us that makes all the difference. Obviously, it would be really strange to take a moment and collect money in a church worship service if it was actually the root of evil. Rather, collecting of tithes and offerings is using money in love for God and worship. It is putting money to kingdom work. This is a good thing if it is based on love for God. Money in this sense is just a resource in the hands of someone who loves God and wants to bring Him honor and glory. They don't need the money because God is where they find their satisfaction.
The love of money however never leaves us satisfied. There is always a need for more. The goal of happiness is always sliding because every time you think "if I just get this amount money, I will be happy" and you actually arrive at that amount you just add more things you want or a higher dollar amount to find satisfaction. A lot of times when people find financial success, they raise their standard of living higher than they can afford even with their increase in income. They make more money, but they also keep adding bills.
Having wealth and materials possessions is by no means a bad thing if done in the right way and owned with a measure of gratitude and contentment. But a love for money turns wealth and possessions into idols only to have us find the things we thought would satisfy our lives do not bring us the peace and satisfaction we expected. We also find that when you find success sometimes it is hard to maintain it. The person who has hoarded wealth may live in constant concern of keeping up the bank account and lifestyle without the ability to actually enjoy their "success".
