"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom." Pride is an issue that puts our life focus on performance and competition. A prideful person thinks they are good because they do well at things. A prideful person cannot appreciate the success or blessings of others because if it is not me receiving recognition then something is wrong. Pride leads to disgrace because we build ourselves up to unrealistic proportions and cannot accept our mistakes and failures well. A prideful person has to blame others for their mistakes because to own up to their own mistakes would diminish their reputation. A prideful person also will not handle defeat or loss well because to them life is all about achievement. A prideful person will deal with a heavy weight because they think all things in life depend on them and revolve around them. A humble person will find rest in knowing that life depends on God and life revolves around Jesus, not us.
A humble person finds their value and worth in Christ, not their performance. A humble person can own their mistakes because they know that their performance is not what defines them, but rather it is Jesus who defines you. A humble person does not talk themselves up, but rather they lift up and celebrate others. A prideful person tells you how great they are. A humble person lets others speak about the good things they see, and they turn the credit and glory back to God. You will know a prideful man from the praise they heap on themselves. You will know a humble man from the good things said about them by others.
