May 19   Psalm 16

God lays out the path of life for us as David says.  There is direction that comes from the LORD that is to our benefit and is heading in the right direction.  There in truth is only 1 right path in life and that is to follow God's ways.  Unfortunately, there are a lot of other paths that people can take as well.  The problem is that though they may start out nice, the destination is not good if it is not God's way.  

The great thing about the path Jesus laid before is us is that he didn't just give us a map and say go.  He didn't simply write "starting line" and say to us I will see you when you get to the finish line.  God doesn't just create the path of life and give instruction to the path of life, but the LORD walks with us down the path.  Some people to try to walk the right path for God, but don't do it with an understanding of walking with God.  There is joy in the Christian life not simply because we follow rules, but because we have a relationship with the God who created all things.  There is joy in knowing that we don't have to walk through this life alone.  

This Psalm reminds me of a hymn I have always really loved.

And he walks with me, and he talks with me
And he tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known
