June 15 Psalm 43
As we are sitting here on Father's Day and thinking about the Psalms there are elements of the Psalms that relate to David as a Father. One of the biggest opponents he had at one point in his life is his son Absalom. How hard must it be for David as the great king to realize that one of his children was actively opposing him to seek his thrown. In all honesty David was a great man, but in the area of being a father there were certainly some bumps along the way. His kids seem to get away with a lot without much correction or discipline.
One of the hardest things we can face is when the opposition that we are experiencing may come from our own children. For David it was tough to know that his son was in the wrong and also to maybe question what he could have done better to prevent the situation. The truth is Absalom was a man and he must be held accountable for his own choices and actions. David was hurt by the attacks of his son, but he also clearly still loved his son and was hopeful that he would get his life straightened up.
How it also must hurt the heart of our Heavenly Father when his children choose to rebel and go their own ways.
