June 26    Psalm 54

David in the middle of the Psalm seems to make a shift from praying for what he needs to praising God for what He has done and will do.  This is pretty common in a lot of the Psalms we read- this transition from praying to praising.  We need both.  We need honest and open prayers where we lay our hearts out before God.  We also need praise because it brings us a balance and reminder of who we are talking to.
When David is praying for what is happening now and then praising God for what He has done in the past it must be encouraging to remember that one we pray today has already answered prayers and worked before. He answered before and we know He can and will answer again.  Praise is a recognition of answered prayers.  It is not uncommon to pray to God for something we need and then forget to praise God for His work because we just move on.
