June 3 Psalm 31
I hope you have been continuing to read the Psalms. I had some technical issues trying to post towards the end of my trip. There were multiple times at General Council where a Psalm I read in the morning was also used as part of the service, which I also find really encouraging.
General Council was a great time, and I can boldly say that as a denomination we are not turning away from Scripture or compromising our values.
In the NIV Psalm 31:15 reads "My times are in your hands". In the CSB it reads "The course of my life is in Your power". What David is saying that my life is completely in the hands of God. No matter what people may say, God has the last say. No matter what people do, God holds them accountable to His good and perfect expectations.
We may face challenges in life, but the challenges don't control our life. We may face challenges in our relationships with others, but our relationship with God helps us overcome those strains. God holds our lives in His hands and doesn't lose power when circumstances change. God is never surprised by the things that we find "shocking" and "unexpected".
While we spend so much time worrying about today, God knows how things will be resolved. When we worry about the future, God is not stressing. We often talk about putting our lives into God's hands, but we need to be sure that don't keep trying to lead our own lives when God says follow me.
Be confident that whatever today brings there is nothing that God cannot handle for you if you trust Him and let Him lead.
Jonathan Scheaffer quoted his father in his sermon on Friday night. This quote I think fits well with the Psalms:
"If I am right with God, nothing can be really wrong with me. If I am wrong with God- nothing can be really right with me" Donald Schaeffer
