May 16 Psalm 12
Verse 4 reminds us why we need to be careful both in what we say and who we listen to. There are those who think they are in control. They speak as if they are the source of wisdom and truth. Their words may sound appealing but be wary of speech that does not line up with God's Word. Speech that does not line up with God's truth will ultimately prove to be hollow and empty. We should speak humbly regarding ourselves and boldly regarding God's Word.
David wants God to humble the proud and boastful and silence the deceptive. God will do this in good time. God also can give us discernment in knowing who to listen to and who trust. People can ignore God in their speech. They can pretend like they are God in their boasting. But we can never forget that God always gets the last word, and he has never been wrong.
