Psalm 58

 Psalm 58

This verse starts with a reference to corrupt judges.  There was a pretty clear standard that God wanted His people to live up to.  There was a standard for the people to live in obedience to in their daily lives.  When they stepped out of bounds and violated the laws the judges were meant to step in for justice and accountability.  What if the judge is unjust?  What if the leader thinks the rules don't apply to him?  The people had to live according to the standard, and the judges needed to also hold to the standard.  The problem is that some of them simply did not.  They did not pursue justice- they pursued power or convenience.  They may have been biased based on who the person was rather than simply looking at the merits of the case.
We need to be sure that we are correctly just in how we view other people.  We cannot over judge some things and ignore others.  We cannot seek justice only for our enemies and let our friends slide.  When we look at life, we must hold ourselves to God's standards and we must be encouraging others to do the same.
