Psalm 91

August 3   Psalm 91

This verse looks forward to Jesus.  The temptation that Jesus' faced in the wilderness when Satan came to tempt him included a reference to this Psalm.  Satan tried to get Jesus to jump off the Temple based on this idea that God would protect him.  This was not a proper thing for Jesus to do because it was coming at the request of Satan rather than the will of God.

Jesus also had this Psalm come to mind again when some mocked him on the cross and told him to call down angels.  Could he? Yes, that was an option in one sense that he had access to the help.  It also was not an option in another sense because Jesus was dedicated to doing the will of God and that calling down angels to stop his crucifixion was not in His plan.  But we know the Father does not fail Jesus and three days later the resurrection was proof that God provided that ultimate help for His beloved Son. Praise the LORD that Jesus never opted to take the easy way out.  Let us also be challenged to pursue the LORD in such a way that we don't look for the easy way out of things that may be challenging.  Jesus didn't make any excuses or try to justify in some way an easier route that didn't include a cross.  We too must trust that God's way truly is the best way.
