Psalm 85

July 28   Psalm 85

Verse 4 is an interesting verse when we consider what happens in our relationship with God.  Who turned from who? Did God turn from Adam and Eve, or did they turn from God?   Did God turn from Israel or did the turn from God?  God is not one who will abandon His people when they are in relationship with Him.  It is us who turns our backs on God.  Even when we face difficulties in this world, we should cherish our relationship with God.  If we don't have God to get us through the hard times, then where will we find hope?

The last part of the Psalm talks about righteousness.  Pursuing righteousness and holy living is a choice that we must make.  Simply by showing up at church or reading our Bibles we do not automatically become holier.  Righteousness is a day-by-day, moment-by-moment decision to act, say, and do as God says.  This is done with God's help as we grow in our relationship with Him.
